I’ve been thinking about how so many apps are “free” but still manage to be full companies with teams, servers, updates, everything. I recently started a small mobile app project just for learning, and I’m trying to figure out what the realistic monetization path even is if you don’t want to just slap ads everywhere. Subscriptions feel obvious, but not every product can justify them, and in-app purchases seem very hit-or-miss depending on the audience. While trying to understand the bigger picture, I found a breakdown and decided to read more here which helped connect a lot of the monetization models with actual product strategies. It made me realize “free” is usually just a distribution strategy, not a business model by itself.
