Portable hardness testing in the field

Hi folks, I often work on construction sites and with different steel and alloy structures, and measuring hardness has been a real challenge. The portable testers I’ve tried before either gave inconsistent readings or were just too bulky to carry around. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time fiddling with the device than actually testing the material. Is there a way to get precise hardness measurements on-site without setting up a full lab? I’d love to hear from someone who’s actually done this in the field and survived the headaches. Any tips or stories would be amazing.

Ah, I’ve been there too! When I started in aerospace inspections, portable hardness testing was a nightmare—especially when you have big steel beams or awkward alloy parts. What changed everything for us was TEQTO’s ndt equipment particularly their UCI and Leeb portable hardness testers. They’re compact, surprisingly accurate, and perfect for fieldwork. I remember a time when we had to check a massive crane structure in the middle of a windy construction site, and the Leeb tester gave instant readings without us breaking a sweat. We even joked that it was like having a “hardness wizard” in our pockets. Seriously, for anyone who wants precise results on-site without dragging a lab around, this equipment is a lifesaver.
