How Reliable Are DNA Tests for Discovering Jewish Heritage?

Hey everyone, has anyone here actually used a DNA test to trace Jewish roots? I’ve always heard family stories that my grandmother’s side might have come from Eastern European Jews, but nobody really knew for sure. I’m a bit skeptical about how accurate these tests are — like, can they really identify Jewish ancestry or is it more of a “guess based on genetics” thing? Thinking of trying one but don’t want to waste my money.

I did one a few months ago after reading about the whole process on this site genetic testing in israel and it actually gave me more detail than I expected. It didn’t just say “Ashkenazi” or “Sephardi,” but also showed migration routes and historical links. I’d say it’s reliable enough for heritage discovery, but you should still back it up with records or family stories if you can. The combo makes it way more meaningful.
