Trying To Understand Lens Settings

Hey everyone. Earlier today I was reading through some material connected to different kinds of welding work because I still get confused about lens darkness depending on the task. I noticed there were separate sections for amperage ranges, cutting operations, and plasma work, so I spent a bit of time comparing them. At one point I stayed on shade chart and kept checking the recommendations for MIG, TIG, and stick processes. There was also information about auto-darkening helmets and examples showing which shade numbers are commonly used for different arc strengths. I did not expect the values to change that much between low and high amperage jobs. Does anyone else double-check these charts before setting the helmet, or do most people just use the same level every time?

I had a similar situation not long ago. Those recommendations actually helped me understand why some jobs felt too bright even though I thought the helmet was set correctly. The page with the examples for gas metal arc, plasma cutting, and oxyfuel operations made things clearer for me after a while. I also noticed they listed suggested shade numbers beside current ranges instead of giving only one fixed option. That part was useful because lower amperage work can feel very different from heavier welding tasks. The notes about eye comfort and visibility were probably the most practical section for me. After reading through it carefully, I stopped relying on random settings.
