Where can I find a reliable MRZ scanner?

I’m currently analyzing different MRZ extraction options for a digital onboarding platform we’re building for financial institutions. The biggest problem we face is that clients upload photos taken in all sorts of environments — dim rooms, uneven lighting, slightly blurred images, even snapshots taken through protective passport covers. Traditional OCR engines choke on these inconsistencies, so we need something purpose-built that can interpret MRZ lines reliably and return clean, verifiable data every time.

Then you should definitely test a dedicated MRZ scanner instead of relying on general OCR libraries. We ran into similar issues with our KYC pipeline, and after a lot of trial and error we finally found a tool that consistently handled real-world photos. The one we ended up using is available at MRZ reader https://ocrstudio.ai/mrz-scanner/ and it surprised us with how well it performs under non-ideal conditions. It maintains correct formatting, understands MRZ delimiters, verifies check digits, and outputs structured text even when the passport photo is slightly angled or not perfectly sharp.
