Finding archives for a family project?

I’m trying to track down some articles from the early nineties about my brother’s varsity football team for a surprise scrapbook project. The online search tool only goes back a few years, so I’m wondering if I have to actually visit a library or if the paper still keeps a physical archive. Has anyone had any luck getting older clippings sent to them digitally for a small fee?

That sounds like such a cool gift idea, and those old sports recaps are usually full of great details that you just can't find anywhere else online. I would definitely recommend checking the Wisconsin State Journal support resources to see if they can point you toward their archivist. Often, the staff is really helpful with these kinds of historical requests and they can help you navigate their digital library or microfiche records. It’s a great way to preserve a bit of family history for the next generation without having to spend hours digging through random boxes in a basement.
