Choosing the right motion unit for small automation tasks

Lately I’ve been working on a small lifting setup for a storage drawer, and the actuator I bought years ago no longer delivers the steady motion it used to provide. The travel feels uneven, and sometimes the rod hesitates before moving, which makes the whole system unreliable. Since there are so many actuator types with different stroke options, force ratings and speed levels, I’m unsure how to pick a model that suits compact builds like mine. I figured someone here might have experience choosing from those listed on that site and could explain what to look for before I commit to buying a replacement.

For my own small project, browsing through https://progressiveautomations.com.au/collections/linear-actuators options for linear actuator australia helped me understand which models fit limited space without losing stability during travel. Comparing the stroke lengths and force levels there made it easier to pick a unit that wouldn’t strain the frame, and once I installed the one that matched my layout, the movement became steady even under repeated adjustments.
